Locker Named Pac-10 Freshman Of The Year

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Quarterback Jake Locker was named the Pac-10 Conference's Freshman of the Year while tailback Louis Rankin and center Juan Garcia both earned All-Pac-10 second-team honors, the conference office announced on Monday.

In addition to those honorees, Locker, defensive tackle Jordan Reffett and senior wide receiver Anthony Russo earned honorable mention.

Locker, from Ferndale, Wash., broke the UW and Pac-10 record for rushing yards by a quarterback, finishing the year with 986 yards and 13 touchdowns (also a UW record for a QB). Additionally, he set a new school record for passing yards by a freshman, finishing the season with 2,062 yards.

Rankin, a senior from Stockton, Calif., became the first 1,000-yard rusher at the UW since 1997. He finished the season with 1,294 yards and posted two 200-yard games during the season.

Garcia, a senior from Yakima, Wash., started every game at center for the second straight year.
