Washington Gymnastics Will Preview the 2008 Season With the Intrasquad Meet

Seattle, Wash. - Washington fans will be able to catch a sneak peek of the 2008 Husky Gymnastics team this Sunday, Dec. 9 at 2 p.m., when the GymDawgs take over Bank of America Arena for their annual intrasquad meet.
Warm-ups will begin at 12:45 p.m., with the competition scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. Admission is free to all spectators, and includes a silent auction on the main concourse level and a post-meet autograph session in the Founders' Club.
'We are really excited to get on the main floor, get into competition gear and perform in front of judges and our fans,' said second-year head coach Joanne Bowers. 'This is a great opportunity to prepare mentally for the season.'
Washington returns 14 letterwinners from the 2007 squad but also welcomes five freshmen this year. Among those expected to compete are senior Raimey Iselin (Puyallup, Wash./Puget Sound School of Gymnastics), juniors Kelly Gilbert (Phoenix, Ariz./Desert Devils Gymnastics), Ashley Houghting (Welland, Ont./Sport Seneca) and Kristen Omori (Kirkland, Wash./Northwest Aerials), and freshmen Haley Bogart (Woodside, Calif./Airborne Gymnastics) and Samantha Walior (Prior Lake, Minn./TAGS).
The intrasquad meet will provide the upperclassmen a chance to return to the competition floor as they debut new skills, but it will also be an opportunity for the freshmen to experience the collegiate team environment.
Fans will get to do more than just watch the Huskies perform, though, as all fans in attendance are invited to participate in a silent auction and to join the Huskies' gymnasts and coaches for a free autograph session.The silent auction will feature athletic memorabilia and tickets. Tables will be set up during warm-ups, so fans should arrive early, make their bids and then settle in for to watch the meet.
After the competition, Husky fans will be invited to the '5th Event.' Now in its second year, this exciting tradition, will feature snacks, drinks and fun interaction between Washington's fans, coaches and student-athletes. The winners of the silent auction will also be announced during the 5th Event, which will be held in the Arena's Founder's Club immediately following the meet.
