NCAA Championship Press Conference Quotes
Dec. 12, 2007
Sacramento, Calif. - Head Coach John Dunning:
'It's an honor to be here. It's been a long road for our team this season, starting on August 8 when we started. It's been a great year. I think our group knew that we had a lot of opportunity to start the year and I think we really capitalized on it. We're pretty healthy. We're really looking forward to the weekend, representing the Pac-10, and I think the three players that are sitting with me have all had amazing years. We're just looking forward to the next level of play because I know how exciting this is.'
(On being to so many Final Fours)
'I've had the pleasure of being in several Final Fours and they never get old. Part of it is every team is different and they're all enjoyable in different ways. This is a great group so it's just great to be with them here. This is what our sport declares as the culmination of our season, so it's just a great thing to be part of it.'
Senior Setter Bryn Kehoe:
(On being back in the Final Four as a senior)
'It's been a great four years and it's an honor to be here. Not just in the Final Four but to represent Stanford once again. This is my third time in the Final Four and I'm looking to close my career on a good note.'
(On what is unique about this year's team)
'Every team is different. We are very balanced both offensively and defensively. We have great passing and great defense in our libero Gabi Ailes and lots of fantastic hitters to feed the ball to. I think that's one of the main reasons teams have a hard time dealing with us.'
Junior Outside Hitter Cynthia Barboza:
(On the challenge of playing a team for the third time)
'It's definitely difficult. Every weekend in our conference, it's like playing a National Championship caliber match. We experienced it with SC. Each time we come to play each other, each team has improved and has new things they're doing. We've changed a lot since the last time we played SC and I'm sure they've made a bunch of changes, so you can never really bank on having beaten someone in the past. That does not by any means mean that you are going to be able to handle them the next time. I think all four teams in this Final Four are very dangerous teams and are all very strong.'
(On being an Academic All-American)
'That's a huge honor, especially at a school like Stanford that is so tough academically. It's tough to juggle and it's tough to manage at times, but that's what we signed up for. I feel like I operate better when I have a bunch of things going on in my life so I don't have time to get lazy.'
Junior Middle Blocker Foluke Akinradewo:
(On having the nation's best individual hitting percentage):
'I think a lot of it has to do with the players around me. There's no way that Bryn can set me the ball if we don't get a great pass or a great dig. Bryn's obviously a great setter and I think I'm just learning more about volleyball every single day.'
