Silver Selected to the 2008 FINA Short Course World Championships Team

Berkeley - COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Twenty-six of the nations top swimmers, including five Olympians will travel to Manchester, England to represent Team USA at the 2008 FINA Short Course World Championships, April 9-13. World record-holder Ryan Lochte (Daytona Beach, Fla.) leads the mens team which also includes his 2004 Olympic teammates Larsen Jensen (Bakersfield, Calif.) and Mark Gangloff (Akron, Ohio). On the womens side, 2004 Olympians Margaret Hoelzer (Huntsville, Ala.) and Rachel Komisarz(Louisville, Ky.) headline the field.

Golden Bear Emily Silver was one of the 13 women chosen to compete at this event. Former Cal swimmers Erin Reilly and Jessica Hardy are also on the squad.

The U.S. swimmers selected to compete at the Short Course World Championships were chosen based upon their performance at theConocoPhillips USA Swimming Short Course National Championships, Nov.29-Dec. 1. Lochte won four events at the meet, and set two Americanrecords. The Short Course World Championships mark the final international competition for U.S. pool swimmers prior to the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.

The team will also feature several members of USA Swimmings 2007international teams. From the 2007 World Championship Team, gold medalistHardy (Long Beach, Calif.) joins teammate Mary DeScenza (Naperville, Ill.). From the 2007 Pan American Games Team, gold medalists Randall Bal (Fair Oaks, Calif.) and Jessica Rodriquez (Aurora, Colo.) will again compete for the USA.
