Owens, Zaher Invited To MLS Player Combine

Dec. 13, 2007

UCLA senior defenders Brandon Owens and Mike Zaher have been chosen as two of 54 college seniors from 33 Division I schools who have been invited to participate in the 2008 adidas MLS Player Combine. The annual player combine will be held at Lockhart Stadium in Ft. Lauderdale, FL on Jan. 11-15, 2008.

Zaher (Las Vegas, NV/Bishop Gorman HS) had his best offensive season in 2007, scoring four goals with three assists for 11 points to rank third on the team in scoring. He finished his Bruin career with seven goals, eight assists and 28 points in 69 games played. The Bruins' co-captain was a finalist for the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award, received All-Pac-10 acclaim for the second consecutive season and earned first-team Pac-10 All-Academic honors.

Owens (Murrieta, CA/Edison Academic Center) came back for his fifth year in 2007 after redshirting the 2006 season with a torn ACL. The former U.S. Youth National Team standout played in 14 games this year with 10 starts and totaled 75 games played in his career. After receiving honorable mention All-Pac-10 honors this season, he became UCLA's first four-time All-Pac-10 honoree since 2003.

The coaching and management staffs of all 14 MLS teams will be in attendance to scout talent at the 2008 adidas MLS Player Combine, which concludes three days before the 2008 MLS SuperDraft. The 2008 MLS SuperDraft will be held on Friday, Jan. 18, 2008 in Baltimore, MD.

The initial list of players for this year's combine was determined by a select panel of Division I college coaches representing all conferences who nominated and voted for players in conjunction with MLS coaches. Youth players from the Generation adidas program will join additional collegiate players from NCAA Division II and III schools, NAIA schools and Division I alternates to finalize the 2008 adidas Player Combine. These players will be announced in the upcoming weeks.

UCLA had a league-high 19 players on MLS rosters in 2007 and has produced a total of 46 MLS players, easily the most by any collegiate institution.
