Brook Lopez Eligible For NCAA Competition

Dec. 17, 2007

STANFORD, Calif.- Sophomore forward Brook Lopez has been deemed academically eligible and is cleared to return to NCAA competition, as announced today by head coach Trent Johnson.

Lopez will be available Wednesday night when Stanford hosts Santa Clara.

Lopez was ruled academically ineligible for the fall quarter back on Oct. 5 and missed the first nine games of the year. Lopez has been able to practice with the team.

A 7-0 sophomore from Fresno, Calif., Lopez averaged 25.2 minutes, 12.6 points, 6.0 rebounds and 1.7 blocks per game last season. He played in 26 contests, making 18 starts, and was named to the 2006-07 Pac-10 All-Freshman Team. Lopez was also tabbed an Honorable Mention selection on the All-Pac-10 squad.

Stanford (8-1, 0-0 Pac-10) returns to the hardwood for the first time since Dec. 2 when it welcomes Santa Clara (6-3, 0-0 WCC) to Maples Pavilion on Wednesday night. After playing eight games during a busy month of November, the Cardinal will play only four games in December. Two of those contests take place this week, as Stanford also squares off against Texas Tech (6-4, 0-0 Big 12) on Saturday afternoon in Dallas, Texas.
