California (6-1) looks to extend its Haas Pavilion win streak to seven games when the Golden Bears host Utah Saturday at 3 p.m. The contest will be televised in Northern California by Comcast SportsNet.
Cal and Utah have met 15 times previously, but have not squared off against each other since the 1969-70 season. A win over the Utes would give the Bears at 7-1 mark for the first time since they began the 2001-02 campaign 9-1.
Both teams enter the game ranked among the national leaders in field goal shooting. Utah is third at 52.0 percent, while Cal is 19th at 50.1 percent after having made at least half its shots from the floor in each of its last four games.
The Bears have also been particularly strong on the glass, owning a +8.0 rebound margin. Cal has posted a double-figure differential four times, including a +21 margin vs. Missouri and +14 at Nevada.
Saturday's game marks the Cal debut of 6-8 sophomore F Jamal Boykin, a transfer from Duke who enrolled in Berkeley for the 2007 spring semester. His addition will raise the number of healthy scholarship players available to nine, with four others still sidelined due to injury.
Sophomore F Ryan Anderson continues to light up scoreboards after tossing in 27 points in a 74-57 win over Delaware State Thursday night. He is averaging 23.3 ppg - best in the Pac-10 and 12th in the country. With 725 points through 41 career games, Anderson could become the first Cal sophomore to reach 1,000 points by the end of his second season with the program.
Senior C DeVon Hardin also rates among the NCAA leaders, holding down the fifth spot in rebounding with 11.3 per game. He has paced the Bears seven times in eight games, pulling down a high of 16 at Nevada and 14 on three other occasions. No Cal player has averaged at least 11 rpg for a full year since Mark McNamara in 1982 (12.6 rpg).
