All-American point guard Darren Collison saw his first action of the year against George Washington (Nov. 28) and made his first start of the season against Texas (Dec. 2) after spraining his left knee (MCL) in the exhibition game against Azusa Pacific (Nov. 2).
Junior guard Michael Roll worked out on Nov. 27 with contact for the first time since rupturing his plantar fascia in his left foot during practice on Nov. 3. He played five minutes against Texas (Dec. 2), 11 vs. Davidson (Dec. 8), 19 vs. Idaho State (Dec. 15) and 21 vs. Western Illinois (Dec. 18).
Sophomore forward James Keefe practiced for the first time with contact this year on Dec. 4 after having surgery on Aug. 10 to repair a torn labrum in his left shoulder. He will probably use his redshirt season this year.
UCLA sports a national ranking of No. 8 in both the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll and Associated Press poll.
SERIES VS. MICHIGAN
This is the 14th meeting between UCLA and Michigan with the Bruins leading the series 10-3. The Bruins are 1-1 at Michigan, winning 68-61 in 2005 and losing 66-70 in 2003. Last year, UCLA cruised to a 92-55 victory in Los Angeles, led by Josh Shipp's 18 points. Arron Afflalo added 17 points with Darren Collison chipping in 15 points and Luc Richard Mbah a Moute adding 13. Courtney Sims and Lester Abram led Michigan with 13 and 11 points, respectively.
WHAT'S WITH THE 'C'?
Several Bruin teams will be wearing special jerseys or patches in 2007-08 to commemorate UCLA being the First to 100 NCAA Championships. The men's basketball team will don the new jerseys that have a different-colored 'C' in UCLA. The 'C' signifies the Roman numeral for 100.
