ASU JR C Sybil Dosty Named U.S. Bank Pac-10 Women's Basketball Player of the Week

WALNUT CREEK, Calif.-- ARIZONA STATE junior center Sybil Dosty has been named the U.S. Bank Pac-10 Women's Basketball Player of the Week for Dec. 24-30, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
Dosty, a native of Tucson, Ariz., averaged 17.0 points, 10.5 rebounds, 1.5 blocks and 0.5 steals in two games as the Sun Devils defeated UCLA and USC to open Pac-10 play with a perfect 2-0 record. On the week, she shot 57.9 percent from the field (11-of-19) and 66.7 percent from the free throw line (12-of-18). She averaged 13.0 points and 7.0 rebounds in the second half of both games in helping the Sun Devils overcome an eight-point deficit against UCLA and an 11-point deficit against USC.
In Friday's 62-59 win over the Bruins, Dosty posted career-best numbers in points (20), rebounds (15) and field goals (8) while playing a season-high 25 minutes. She scored 16 of her 20 points in the second half, including 10 in the final 13 minutes after the Sun Devils fell behind 45-37 with 12:49 left.
In the 66-63 come-from-behind win over the Women of Troy, Dosty scored 10 of her 14 points and had five of her six rebounds in the second half. Dosty's performance helped ASU overcome its largest halftime deficit (11 points) at home since February of 2004.
Arizona State (8-5, 2-0) is tied for first place in the Pac-10 and will play its next three games on the road, including contests at Oregon, Thurs., Jan. 3 and at Oregon State, Sat., Jan. 5.
The Player of the Week honor is the first for Dosty. It is the 31st all-time selection for Arizona State.
