Burduli, Kamendova Garner ITA Regional Rankings

PULLMAN, Wash. - Washington State University tennis players Ekaterina Burduli, and Ekaterina Kamendova earned Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Northwest Region rankings, it was announced recently.
A senior co-captain, Burduli earned a regional ranking of 16 after finishing the 2007 fall season with an 11-2 record. The Tel Aviv, Israel native began the season by winning the Cougar Classic (Flight A) and also captured the USTA Women's Collegiate Invitational title in early October. Burduli concluded her fall campaign by reaching the round of 16 at the 2007 ITA Northwest Regional.
Kamendova, a freshman and native of Moscow, Russia, garnered a No. 26 regional ranking following her first fall season of competition. Kamendova posted a 6-4 record, reaching the semifinals of the Cougar Classic Flight A draw and defeating Nevada's Laetitia Tan in the opening round of the ITA Northwest Regional.
The two players combined to earn a No. 9 doubles ranking for the Northwest Region. The duo posted a 6-3 record, reaching the finals of the Cougar Classic Flight A draw then winning its first two rounds at the ITA Northwest Regional, before falling to the third-seeded pair of Lindsay Burdette and Celia Durkin of Stanford.
The Cougars will open their 2008 dual match schedule against in-state rivals Gonzaga and Eastern Washington, Saturday, Jan. 19, when they host Eastern Washington in the morning and Idaho later that evening.
