Cal Women's Swimming Ventures to Australia

Jan. 2, 2008

Berkeley - Head coach Teri McKeever will take her Golden Bear swim team to Australia for two weeks, beginning Jan. 2, for training purposes and preparation for the upcoming Pac-10 schedule.

Cal will arrive in Melbourne via Sydney on Jan. 4 and will compete for two days (Jan. 5-6) at the Victorian State Championships - a great long course venue. In addition, USA Swimming will also send its Junior National Team (about 66 members) to the championships as well to provide further competition for the Bears.

After another day of training on Jan. 7, the team will explore the city of Melbourne before arriving in Cronulla (south of Sydney) for more training in the ocean. McKeever also plans on giving the team every other afternoon off to explore Australia.

As a reminder, the Golden Bears will be hosting a Parents Weekend, Jan. 25-26. It is designed to celebrate Cal's three seniors (Rachel Ridgeway, Emily Silver and Kelly Stravers), as well as share an intimate family dinner slated for Jan.25 at 6:00 p.m. in the Hall of Fame room in Memorial Stadium.

Cal resumes competition on Jan. 25 and 26 versus Arizona and Arizona State respectively in Berkeley.
