Sun Devil Gymnastics: Carrie's Corner
Jan. 3, 2008
Hey Devil fans!
Well it's here, competition season! I'm so excited I can barely hold it all in. It's an unexplainable feeling to have such a young team and it's hard for outsiders to understand the excitement that everyone is feeling. The freshmen have stars in their eyes and, while some of them may be nervous for the long season about to come, they are ready to take on any challenge and any competition that comes their way with the support of our confident juniors. We have been having a lot of inter-squad meets which have been successful in building up confidence on all events.
Bars looks incredible and I can't wait for the girls to show the nation what we have in store. As Gym Devils, we have a long history of pride on the balance beam with multiple national champions and this year is showing even more potential than ever on beam. Tiana Jean will lead us off on beam and she has been more solid than ever. Her confidence has given her the title of Captain for our first meet in Vegas. Our freshmen look ready to rock on beam and it hasn't taken them much time to catch up to our stunning juniors and one of my favorite beam workers, sophomore Kaitlynn Borman. As always, Ashlee Hinkle will prove to be a dynamic beam worker. Returning to the lineup will be the infamous Nicole Harris, who will be impossible to forget as soon as she touches the beam. One of the most exciting aspects of this season is the return of Tia Orlando on both beam and bars.
While I'm ecstatic about beam and bars, I am just as confident in our capability on floor especially with the entry of our newest freshman, Britney Schuett. Her floor will prove to be a force to be reckoned with. Vault is improving with each day, and I have a feeling we have a possible National Vault champion on our hands this year. Beate Jones, a freshman, is proving herself more and more every day to be one of the most powerful forces on our team and she is one of the most entertaining performers I have seen.
The chemistry on our team is undeniable. Through thick and thin, we truly have each others backs. We've spent much time together in and outside of the gym with events such as pictionary nights, gingerbread house building, decorating our locker room and our annual holiday party with Secret Santas. Our coaches and trainers have been incredibly supportive and we are ready to start the season strong. We look forward to your support!
