MBB Opens Big 12 Play Saturday At A&M

BOULDER - The University of Colorado men's basketball team begins its second season on Saturday, Jan. 12 traveling to the Texas A&M Aggies to open the Big 12 Conference season.

Game time is 2 p.m. (mountain) and will televised by Altitude Sports and Entertainment.

Colorado (8-5) enters the game having won three of its last four, while the Aggies enter as the No. 11 (Associated Press) and No. 10 (USA Today) nationally ranked school with a 14-1 record. A&M is a perfect 12-0 at home.

Although Colorado leads the series 9-5 dating back to 1969, Texas A&M has won the last four in a row since 2005. Overall, the Buffaloes hold a 4-2 advantage in College Station and have not won at Reed Arena since Feb. 28, 2004 (76-70).

Last season, CU lost at home to A&M (nationally ranked No. 8/9, 87-69 in Boulder). Jermyl Jackson-Wilson scored 13 points, with Xavier Silas and Richard Roby each adding 11.

The conference season opener has not been kind to CU since the Big 12 inception, losing their last 10 in a row for a 1-10 mark (0-4 on the road).

The Buffs are coming off an 81-68 home loss to Tulsa on Monday. Richard Roby scored a game-high 27 points, however the Golden Hurricane shot 63 percent in the second half. Marcus Hall had a career-high 10 rebounds, nine assists and a personal-best eight steals. Xavier Silas finished with 13 points and Levi Knutson had 10. CU also tallied a season-best 16 offensive rebounds and 12 steals.

FOR STARTERS: Colorado ranks 20th nationally in scoring defense (58.6 ppg.), fourth in the Big 12 - CU has won eight games surpassing last year's total of seven - The Buffs have lost 29-straight nationally ranked games away from Boulder, including 22 on the road, seven on neutral courts. Their last road win came at No. 20 Texas Tech, Jan. 11, 80-78 - Last win over ranked top-10 opponent at home: No. 3/3 Texas, Feb. 4, 2003 (93-80); last win over a top-10 opponent on the road: never - CU is 5-0 this season when shooting over 50 percent from the field and 4-1 when placing four or more players in double-digits - The Buffs played with only seven players in their last two games - Hall, Roby and Cory Higgins have started every game (14) - In his last three games, Roby is averaging 22.3 ppg., 5.0 rpg., 3.0 apg., 500 FG percentage (22-of-44).

ABOUT texas A&M: The Aggies enter Saturday's matinee with a 12-0 home record with seven of them highlighting their current seven-game winning streak. Texas A&M's lone loss came at Arizona (78-67). A&M and Kansas have played the most home games during the non-conference season (12). As of Jan. 6, the Aggies are among the best in several nationally categories: 2nd rebounding margin (11.7), 3rd in FG% defense (35.3), 5th in scoring margin (20.9), 6th in FG% (51.3), 11th scoring defense (56.8) and 39th in blocks per game (5.0).

TEAM LEADERS: CU's leading scorers are Richard Roby (16.6 ppg.) and Marcus Hall (12.9 ppg.); leader on the glass is Roby (6.1 rpg.) and Jermyl Jackson-Wilson (4.9 rpg.); Hall tops the team in assists (4.0 apg.), steals (2.2 spg.) and 24 3-pointers.

HALL or ROBY: Through 14 games, Richard Roby and Marcus Hall have led the majority of games in scoring. Roby has led seven times, Hall six times. Xavier Silas has the other with his career-high 24 points against Florida A&M. In his seven games, Roby averages 22.1 ppg., while Hall is 16.2 ppg.
