Jan. 14, 2008

WALNUT CREEK, Calif.-- CALIFORNIA junior forward/center Ashley Walker has been named the U.S. Bank Pac-10 Women's Basketball Player of the Week for Jan. 7-13, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.

Walker, a native of Modesto, Calif., averaged 21.0 points and 7.5 rebounds in leading the Golden Bears to their sixth and seventh consecutive victories.

With the Golden Bears looking for a catalyst in the second half as they trailed Oregon on Thursday, Walker stepped up with 17 second half points and five rebounds to help the Bears rally from a 29-23 deficit with 17:19 remaining in the game for a 61-52 win.

Walker returned Saturday to once again lead the Bears with a game-high 17 points as California cruised to a 61-45 victory over Oregon State.

California (15-2, 6-0) sits atop the Pac-10 with one more Conference victory than Arizona State (11-5, 5-0). Only one team will remain undefeated as the Bears take on the Sun Devils in the desert Thurs., Jan 17. California then travels to Arizona to face the Wildcats in a Fox Sports Net televised game, Sat., Jan. 19 at 1 p.m. PT.
