Ben Hilgart Named Head Sports Performance Coach

TEMPE, Ariz. - Ben Hilgart has been named Arizona State University's Head Sports Performance Coach, head football coach Dennis Erickson announced Friday. Hilgart has spent the past three seasons as the Senior Assistant Sports Performance Coach for the Sun Devils.
'After interviewing a number of candidates I felt we had the best candidate right here in our own department,' says Erickson. 'Ben is very skilled at what he does. He will bring some new concepts and ideas to our program in his new capacity. He will help make us a better football team.'
Before coming to ASU in June of 2005, Hilgart spent the previous three seasons at The Ohio State University, first as the assistant strength and conditioning coach, then as the associate. He spent two years at UTEP as the graduate assistant strength and conditioning coach after coaching the defensive line as well as serving as the head strength coach at Western Illinois University, his alma mater. He was a two-year letterman at Western Illinois, earning his bachelor's degree in Physical Education in 2000. He earned is master's in kinesiology from UTEP in 2003. Hilgart has also served as the head strength coach at Deer Valley High School in Glendale.
Hilgart replaces Joe Kenn, who accepted a similar position at the University of Louisville last month.
