WSU Tennis Defeats BYU, 4-3

PULLMAN, Wash.- The No. 50 (ITA) Washington State Cougars tennis squad won its third match in a row after defeating BYU Friday afternoon, at the Simmelink Tennis Courts at Hollingbery Fieldhouse.
With the win, WSU (3-0 overall, 0-0 Pac-10) improved to 3-0 in back to back season for the first time since 1986-87 and 1987-88.
The Cougars found themselves in a hole after loosing the doubles point, but won four of the six singles matches to capture the victory.
In singles play, junior Bianca Selaru took care of Chie Hayasaka, 6-2, 6-1 to start things off for the Cougars. Freshman Ekaterina Kamendova did her part at No. 3 with a 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 win over Elizaveta Ezhova and has a 3-0 record to start the season.
Senior Ekaterina Burduli now has 77 career singles victories and climbed into a tie for third place all-time after she earned her third win of the season with a victory over BYU's Kristina Doerr, 6-1, 6-1.
WSU clinched the win with the help of junior Aleksandra Cekic as she defeated Elle Carney of BYU in straight sets, 6-0, 6-4 in the No. 5 spot to give Washington State a 4-3 victory.
The tennis team returns to action with a three-match road trip beginning with the Wyoming Cowboys, Friday, Feb. 1 at Colorado Springs, Colo. at 10 a.m.
