Jan. 29, 2008

PULLMAN, Wash. - The Washington State University women's tennis team achieved a No. 43 ranking in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) poll released Tuesday.

The Cougars , who entered the preseason with a No. 50 ranking, has opened the 2008 portion of its schedule with three straight victories over Eastern Washington, Idaho and Brigham Young. Last Friday's victory over BYU marked the second consecutive season WSU has upset its Cougar counterparts from Utah, posting a 4-3 victory. That victory enabled WSU to climb seven spots in the most recent ranking.

Washington State begins a three-match road swing through Colorado this Friday when it faces Wyoming in Colorado Springs. Weekend matches against Air Force and Denver, also in Colorado Springs, concludes the trip. The Cougars return to Pullman to begin a seven-match home stand Feb. 15, when they host Utah.
