Track & Field Continues Indoor Season At UW Invitational This Weekend

The men's and women's track and field teams will continue the indoor season in Seattle, WA as they compete at the UW Invitational on Friday and Saturday. The meet features many schools including Stanford, Oregon, Cal State Northridge, Sacramento State, Baylor and Arkansas, to name a few.
The men's team will field a full squad with all event groups being featured. The Bruins get the meet underway on Friday evening with the distance medley relay. The women's team will send a small contingent to Seattle representing distance, shot put and pole vault.
This weekend's meet marks the debut of several athletes, both returning and new to the UCLA squad. Returners of note on the men's side include John Caulfield (shot put), Darius Savage (shot put), Chris Bencomo (pole vault), Dustin DeLeo (pole vault), Joel Tuosto (jumps), Austin Ramos (3000m), Laef Barnes (3000m). Male newcomers of note include Nevin Gutteriez (400m, relay), Daniel Kirkpatrick (jumps), Jonathan Clark (jumps) and Taylor Hobson (jumps).
Freshman Cory Primm will compete in the 800m for the second time this season after opening up with a lifetime-best 1:50.09 two weeks ago at the UW Preview. Primm is currently ranked eighth in the country. Barnes, who is running the 3000m this weekend, is also nationally ranked with his time of 4:03.28 in the mile (8th).
For the women, heralded freshman Tori Anthony will debut in the pole vault. The first year Bruin was slated to compete two weeks ago, but pulled out of the UW Preview. Fellow vaulters Ingrid Kantola, Katy Viuf, Megan Jamerson and Tori Pena will also compete in Seattle.
In the distance events, freshman Shannon Murakami will compete in the mile along with junior Lauren Jirges. Junior Gabrielle Bournes and sophomores Krishna Curry and Rosa Magana will run the 800m. Senior Mary Hanley and freshemn Alexa Berg and Catherine White will compete in the shot put.
Saturday's portion of the meet will begin at 8:30 am on the field with the women's long jump, while running events will start at 9:00 am with the women's 3000m.
