Buffs Qualify Eight For Finals At Air Force Invite

AIR FORCE ACADEMY - The University of Colorado track and field teams qualified eight individuals for the finals in 10 events on the first day of the Air Force Invite and Megan Burrell won the unseeded 3,000-meter run here today at the Cadet Fieldhouse on the U.S. Air Force Academy.

 

Burrell recorded a time or 11:02.82 and finished over 13 seconds ahead of the runner-up, Alysha Davis (Wyoming).

 

Dyamond Seay qualified for the finals in the 200 and 400-meter dashes. She placed seventh in the 400, clocking a mark of 57.97, which was a personal record. Seay ran a time of 25.67 in the 200, also a pr.

 

Jeremy Dodson advanced to the finals in the 200. He clocked the best time of the year for a Buff in the 200 at 21.53 and placed first overall. Jared Stewart also qualified in the 200 as well as the 400. He raced to a 12th-place finish in the 200 (22.47) and was sixth in the 400 (49.36). Nate Terry qualified in the 400. He placed eighth overall with a mark of 49.62.

 

Sara Vaughn recorded a time of 2:22.18, placing second overall in the 800-meter run. Dani Rodriguez also qualified by placing fourth overall (2:22.88).

 

Ben Ryan and Matt Carey both qualified in the 800-meter run. Ryan finished ninth overall (1:58.86) and Carey was 11th (1:59.04).

 

Chelsea Haverty finished sixth in the pentathlon by scoring a career high 3,035 points. It was first time she accumulated more than 3,000 points. Haverty took third in the high jump (4-11.75) and was fourth in the long jump (18-03.00).

 

Alex Von Hagen will lead the CU men in to the second day of competition in the men's heptathlon. Von Hagen has 2,755 points after the first four events. His best event of the day was the last event; the high jump. Von Hagen set a personal best and tied for second overall at 6-05.50. Adam Salzmann is ninth (2,688) and Parker Fales is 14th (2,442) heading into action tomorrow.

The Buffaloes will continue action at the Air Force Academy tomorrow, Saturday, Feb. 2. The first event of the day will be the men's heptathlon 60-meter hurdles at 8:30 a.m. The final event of the day is the men's mile relay, set for a 4:05 p.m. start.
