Murakami Leads Bruin Women On Day One Of Tyson Invitational

Freshman Shannon Murakami highlighted the Bruin women competing at the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, AR on Friday as she was UCLA's highest finisher during day one of the meet. Murakami finished sixth in the mile with a lifetime-best run of 4:57.74 (previous best, 5:03.10).

Also in the mile, junior Lauren Jirges finished 13th in a time of 5:01.76.

In the championship section of the pole vault, senior Ingrid Kantola cleared a season-high and NCAA provisional mark of 12-11.75 to finish 13th overall.

Sophomore Danielle Watson finished 10th in the championship section of the long jump with a lifetime-best mark of 19-10.75. Senior Renee Williams was 15th with a jump of 19-3.25.

Freshman Joy Eaton and junior Krystin Lacy each won their respective heats of the 400m as Eaton ran a season-best 55.34 to finish 36th overall and Lacy ran 55.39 to finish 38th overall. Freshman Ashlea McLaughlin was third in her heat and 73rd overall in a time of 56.81.

In the 60m hurdles, freshman Lindsay Rowe finished third in her heat with a season-best run of 8.77 (45th oerall). Sophomore Tierra Ward was sixth in her heat (9.25) and 77th overall.

On Saturday, competition continues in Arkansas as vaulters Tori Anthony, Megan Jamerson and Tori Pena, the 4x400m relay team and Jirges (800m) and Murakami (800m) are slated to compete.
