Sun Devils Fall to Rival Arizona

The Sun Devils ended their regular season against Arizona. Eight Sun Devil seniors swam in their final dual at Mona Plummer Aquatic Center as the women fell 177-111 and the men 199-85 against highly ranked Wildcat teams. In her final home meet, senior All-American and ASU record holder Caitlin Andrew had three individual 'B' cuts and contributed to the Sun Devils winning 200 free relay team. Along with Andrew, seniors Lindsey Brown, John Dwelley, Steve Neuwert, C.J. Nuess, Lindsey Russenberger, Ellis Schieman and Emlynn Tursick were all recognized prior to their final home meet.
Erin Hobbs and freshman Brittany Jumer went one and two on the three-meter. Hobbs had a score of 286.65 to place first while Jumer posted a 278.08. Hobbs placed third on the one-meter, recording a score of 255.45. Billy Sweeney placed third on the one and three meter with scores of 314.18 and 296.18 respectively.
Andrew had the most successful day for the swimmers. The senior recorded a time of 23.23 in the 50 free, good enough to be under the 'B' cut. Andrew also had an NCAA consideration time in the 100 free after touching in at 50.48. In the 100 fly, Andrew placed second with a 'B' time of 54.32.
For the men, Nuess came in first in the 200 IM, clocking in a time of 1:50.33. The senior All-American placed second in the 1000 free with a time of 9:13.55. Nuess also placed second in the 200 breast with a time of 2:03.91. Ashley Evans won the women's 200 IM coming in at 2:06.19.
In the most exciting event of the day, the women's 200 free relay team tied with Arizona's exhibition A team. Both teams clocked in times of 1:33.08. ASU's relay team of Andrew, Jen Beckberger, Lindsey Brown and Jess Perazzo currently hold the top time in the nation.
The Sun Devils head to Pac-10 next. The women's Pac-10 Championships will take place in Long Beach, Calif. They begin February 26 and end March 1st. The Pac-10 Diving Championships are from February 28-March 1 in Federal Way, Wash. The men's Pac-10 Championships are in Long Beach from March 4-8.
