Stanford, Calif. - Stanford women's gymnastics returned home Sunday after more than a month on the road and put forth one of the best performances of the season. Stanford raced out with two strong showings on vault and bars and never looked back in their 197.375-193.100 victory against California. Stanford's score was their best routine of the season by over six tenths of a point.
In the first rotation the Cardinal hit all six routines on vault en route to a 49.425 score in the event. Senior Liz Tricase led the way with a 9.950, which was the highest score in the entire event. Fellow senior Tabitha Yim recorded a 9.900 score in her own right to go along with 9.875 by redshirt freshman Allyse Ishino. The 49.425 score was rounded out by two 9.850 routines by senior Alex Pintchouk and junior Nicole Ourada and the Cardinal had a 49.425-48.850 lead after the first event.
The second rotation brought another strong score as the Cardinal earned a 49.325 score on bars. Tricase put together another pristine routine to earn a 9.900 and Ishino scored a 9.900 as well to lead the Cardinal. Yim was right behind with a 9.875 and after two full rotations the Cardinal had a 98.750-97.725 lead. Through two rotations the Cardinal had 11 of 12 routines score a 9.800 or better.
Stanford moved to the beam for the third rotation and the strong scores kept coming in. Yim scored a 9.950 after a near-flawless routine on beam and Ourada was right behind with a 9.925. Junior Kelly Fee earned a 9.850 in the event to continue her strong season on beam. After the third rotation was complete, the Cardinal had a comfortable 148.00-144.975 lead.
The floor rotation brought the Cardinal four more routines of 9.850 or more in their top meet of the season. Yim finished her day with a score 9.900 and finished the meet with an all-around score of 39.625. Senior Lauren Elmore also put forth a score of 9.900 on the floor.
Stanford will return to the gym on Friday, Feb. 29 in Tempe, Ariz against Arizona State. The meet will begin at 6:00 p.m. PST.
