USC 5th After Pac-10 Championships First Day

USC's posted a season-best in the 800y free relay during a short two-event first day of the 2008 Pac-10 Women's Swimming Championships at Belmont Plaza in Long Beach, Calif., on Wednesday (Feb. 27).

The Women of Troy's 800y free relay of junior Rachael Waller and seniors Emily Goetsch, Whitney Hentzen and Brittany Allen finished sixth in 7:15.02, shaving more than five seconds off its previous 2008 best effort and improving its NCAA consideration time.

The 200y medley relay quartet of juniors Kristen Lahey and Katy Houston, Goetsch and Waller tied for fifth in 1:40.50.

USC is fifth after the first day with 97 points. Cal is in first (118) and is followed by Arizona (116), Stanford (112), Washington (106), USC, UCLA (96), ASU (93), Oregon State (90) and Washington State (80).

The competition continues Thursday through Saturday (Feb. 28-March 1). Prelims are at 10 a.m., finals at 6 p.m. Single-day session tickets are available at the door.

The Pac-10 Women's and Men's Diving Championships run Thursday through Saturday in Seattle. Scores from the diving will count toward the above point totals.
