Stanford Third After First Day of Pac-10 Championships

Stanford sits in third place after the first day of the Pac-10 Swimming Championships from Belmont Plaza Olympic Pool in Long Beach, Calif. The Cardinal have 66 points, trailing Arizona with 74 points and California with 72 points.

The events contested on Wednesday were the 200 yard medley relay and the 800 yard free relay. Stanford swam season bests and captured national `A' standards in both events. In the 200 yard medley relay, a team of Eugene Godsoe, Paul Kornfeld, Austin Staab, and Jason Dunford swam a time of 1:25.59. In the 800 free relay it was David Mosko, Daniel Beal, Andrew Trepp, and Phillip Morrison that swam a time of 6:24.14.

The Pac-10 Swimming Championships will resume tomorrow with day two. The morning session begins at 11:00 a.m. and will include the prelims for the 500 yard freestyle, the 200 yard IM, and the 50 yard freestyle. The night session will begin at 6:00 p.m. and include the finals of those events as well as the 200 yard free relay final.
