Mack Wins 60-Meter Hurdles at Last Chance Qualifier

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Senior Thomas Mack from the California track and field team won the 60-meter hurdles at the Arkansas Last Chance Qualifier today at the Randal Tyson Track Center. Also competing for the Golden Bears was freshman Cherrelle Garrett in the 60-meter dash.
Mack posted a time of 7.93. His provisional-qualifying time remains 7.89, which he set at the MPSF championships last weekend. Mack defeated Zach Ross from Stephen F. Austin (7.94), Kai Kelly from USC (7.95) and Anthony Boyer from UMKC (8.20). According to interim director of track and field Tony Sandoval, Mack got off to a good start and finished strong to earn the top honors. It's the second victory in the 60-meter hurdles this year for Mack. He won the event at the Husky Classic on Feb. 16.
Garrett was disqualified in her race. Her provisional-qualifying time remains 7.40, which she earned at the MPSF championships.
Cal competes in the Washington Last Chance Meet at the Dempsey Indoor Track Facility tomorrow in Seattle, Wash. Junior Katie Morgan and freshman Allison Stokke will participate in the pole vault, and junior Inika McPherson will take part in the high jump. All three have already provisionally qualified for the NCAA Indoor Championships.
