No. 3 USC Set For UCF Challenge

The No. 3 USC women's golf team, which has finished no lower than third in any event since the second week in September, looks to remain hot when it takes part in the 2008 UCF Challenge at RedTail G.C. in Sorrento, Fla., at an event hosted by Central Florida Sunday through Tuesday (March 9-11).
The stacked field includes No. 14 Alabama, No. 8 Arkansas, No. 10 Auburn, No. 1 Duke, No. 5 Florida, Florida State, Furman, No. 12 Georgia, No. 25 LSU, No. 22 New Mexico, No. 7 Oklahoma State, No. 18 Pepperdine, No. 15 Tennessee, UCF, No. 3 USC, No. 2 UCLA and No. 23 Vanderbilt.
USC IN 2007-2008
The Women of Troy, who have finished among the top five teams at the NCAA Championships in three of the past five years, have won one event (the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational) and finished (or tied for) second three times. USC tied for second with Duke in its most recent outing at the Arizona Wildcat Invitational ... Sophomore Belen Mozo tied for first at the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational to lead USC to the team title ... The Trojans took second at the 2007 Margaret Branch NCAA Preview at the UNM Championship Course in Albuquerque, N.M. USC finished 15-under 861 (292-285-284), one stroke back of winner Duke (860, 292-285-284). USC's final two rounds were each low for the day. Troy's other second took place at the 2007 Kent Youel Invitational, where it combined for a 21-over 885 (294-301-290), four strokes back of first-place UCLA (881). Mozo and freshman Joanne Lee tied for third overall at 2-over 218, one shot back of first place ... Troy took third at the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge as senior Paola Moreno, sophomore Stefanie Endstrasser and freshman Lizette Salas tied for third to lead the team ... USC tied for sixth in the Mason Rudolph Championship to open the season.
Dewi Claire Schreefel
Senior Dewi Claire Schreefel, a two-time All-American, won her first tournament since her 2006 NCAA Championships individual title when she won the 2007 Margaret Branch NCAA Fall Preview on Sept. 26 at the University of New Mexico G.C. Her three-round effort of 204 (68-69-67) was one off the USC individual 54-hole record while her 15-under par is a USC record. She also strung three consecutive sub-70 rounds together for the first time as a Trojan, punctuating her fine play with an eagle on the tournament's final hole. For her efforts, she was named Golfweek and Golf World Player of the Week ... She also tied for 15th at the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational, tied for 16th at the Kent Youel Invitational and tied for 20th at the Mason Rudolph Championship. Her stroke average of 73.60 is second on the team.
Senior Paola Moreno, the 2007 NCAA Championships runner-up and a 2007 All-American first teamer, has a pair of 10th-place ties as her highest finishes this year, one at the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational, the other at the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge ... She led USC in stroke average as a junior last year (73.18).
Sophomore Belen Mozo, a 2007 All-American honorable mention pick, posted a USC career-best tie for first at the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational. She finished with a 1-over 217 (70-75-72) and, thanks to a tiebreaker, was tabbed as medalist. USC's leader in stroke average (72.73), she has finished lower than 11th only once in Troy's six events this season and has four top 10 finishes ... She tied for second at the Arizona Wildcat Invitational, which included a final-round 68, and tied for third at the Kent Youel Invitational ... Mozo was USC's top finisher at the Mason Rudolph, tying for 10th with a 216 (74-69-73). She then tied for 11th at the Fall Preview with a 4-under 215 (75-71-69), her final round 4-under effort highlighted by a hole-in-one on the 137-yard, par 3 17th hole ... She has four rounds in the 60s this season, tops on the team.
Freshmen Lizette Salas is fourth for USC in stroke average at 73.80. Salas, who has four consecutive top 11 finishes, had a season-best tie for fourth at the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational ... She tied for 11th at the Kent Youel Invitational, tied for 10th at the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge and tied for eighth at the Arizona Wildcat Invitational.
Freshman Joanne Lee played in USC's first two tournaments, finishing 36th and 35th, respectively. After being off one event, she came back in Troy's final tournament of the fall to tie for third, finishing with a season-best 71 in the final round ...In her most recent event, playing as an individual, Lee tied for 20th at the Arizona Wildcat Invitational, but was among the tournament's leaders after two rounds.
Junior Stefanie Endstrasser is a spring semester transfer from Purdue. The Austrian native competed in nine events as a freshman in 2006-2007, finishing a season-high 10th at the Big Ten Championships ... So far as a Trojan, she tied for 10th at the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge and tied for 16th at the Arizona Wildcat Invitational.
Junior college transfer Victoria Alimonda made her USC debut at the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational, tying for 76th. Playing individually at the Kent Youel, she tied for 50th, a season best. She also has played individually in USC's previous three outings.
