Savage Throws Lifetime-Best In Seattle, Most Likely In To National Meet
March 8, 2008
Sophomore Darius Savage threw a huge lifetime-best at the Last Chance Qualifier Meet in Seattle on Saturday as he upped his best mark by over a foot. Savage won the contest with a toss of 60-10, bettering his previous best (set last week at the MPSF Championships) of 59-6.75. That mark moves Savage to No. 10 on the national list (heading into this weekend's competitions).
With other last chance meets being held this weekend, his mark will most likely keep him within the top-15 in the country giving him a spot at the NCAA Indoor Championships next weekend in Fayetteville, AR.
Also at the Last Chance meet, junior Bobby Tally jumped a lifetime-best 17-0.75 in the pole vault to finish in a tie for second. Tally's mark was sa provisional qualifier, but will not make it to the NCAA meet. Junior Dustin DeLeo tied for fifth (16-6.75), while senior Chris Bencomo tied for eighth (16-0.75). Freshman Jonathan Clark placed third in the triple jump with a mark of 48-5.25.
Savage will join John Caulfield (shot put), Boldizsar Kocsor (weight throw), the distance medley relay team and possibly Dustin DeLeo (pole vault), Cory Primm (800m) and Austin Ramos (3000m) at Nationals.
