March 8, 2008

LOS ANGELES, CALIF. - The No. 7 USC women's tennis team dealt out an overpowering performance against No. 36 Washington State on Saturday afternoon, as the Women of Troy gave up only 14 games total to the Cougars in the nine singles and doubles matches played. The 7-0 win over Washington State improves USC's overall record to 11-3 overall and lifts the Trojans to a 2-0 mark in Pac-10 competition.

The Women of Troy shut out the Cougars at the No. 1 and No. 3 positions, as #8 Fink/Niculescu dealt out their 10th consecutive doubles win at the No. 1 slot, and Fansler/Kinstler pinned up an identical 8-0 win from No. 3. Meanwhile, Nelson/Andrews was pounding out a lopsided 8-2 win at the No. 2 position as singles play came up.

Straight-set wins abounded in singles play, sparked by 6-0 starts in the first set from four different Trojans - Lindsey Nelson, Amanda Fink, Gabriela Niculescu and Maria Sanchez - while Sarah Fansler and Leyla Entekhabi gave up only a single game in their first sets. The Trojans continued to stay in control, as USC launched to a clean sweep in the Pac-10 match.
