2008 Cal Football Season Tickets on Sale Thursday

March 12, 2008

BERKELEY - California football fans that did not have season tickets in 2007 will have their first opportunity to purchase Golden Bear season tickets on Thursday, March 13, beginning at 8:30 a.m. Season-ticket renewals have continued to sell at a high pace in 2008 with over 10,000 renewed in the first two weeks of availability. Cal students can purchase 2008 student season tickets on Thursday as well.

For further information or to purchase season tickets, visit www.CalBears.com or call 1-800-GO-BEARS.

The Bears open the 2008 season on Aug. 30, hosting Michigan State. Other games on the Cal home slate include the 111th edition of the Big Game vs. Stanford, UCLA, Oregon, Arizona State, Washington and Colorado State.

The per-game ticket prices for 2008 are the same as last season. Season ticket holders are also guaranteed the same seat for every game - in the past Cal season ticket holders often had to sit in different seats for the Big Game so that Stanford fans could sit together. In addition, Gold Zone and Blue Zone tickets in the end zones are now reserved seating - with the prices remaining the same as last year's general admission tickets in those areas.

Since the arrival of Jeff Tedford, California's season-ticket count has been on a steady climb. The Bears sold 16,200 season passes in 2002, Tedford's first year. His second season resulted in sales of 22,500. In 2004, the number again jumped substantially, up to a then-school-record 34,100, but that record was short-lived as California set another mark with 40,134 season tickets sold in 2005. After increasing to 40,262 in 2006, the Bears sold 41,336 season passes last season.

In addition to record season-ticket sales since the arrival of Jeff Tedford, the Golden Bears have averaged over 63,000 fans in three of the last four years. The Bears have sold out five games (72,516) in the last three years and have had over 50,000 fans at 24 straight home games every game in the last four years.

Single-game tickets are scheduled to go on sale on June 3 to select donor groups.
