Walker Named Second-Team All-American by Sports Illustrated

BERKELEY, Calif. - California junior forward Ashley Walker was selected a second-team All-American by Sports Illustrated. Walker was one of 10 players to be honored by the national magazine.
Walker, 6-1, earned her second first-team All-Pac-10 accolade last week. The Modesto, Calif., product leads Cal in scoring (15.0 ppg), rebounding (9.3 rpg, 1st Pac-10), blocks (1.4 bpg) and free throw percentage (76.3%) and is second in field goal percentage (51.0%) and steals (1.2 spg). Walker tops the Pac-10 in double-doubles (13) and has 33 for her career.
Walker, a 2006-07 Associated Press honorable mention All-American, is the only player in school history with at least 1000 points, 700 rebounds and 100 blocks. She is seventh all-time in Cal history in points (1,430), sixth in rebounds (805) and third in blocks (139).
Walker was joined on the Sports Illustrated second team by Maryland's Marisa Coleman and Crystal Langhorne, Connecticut's Maya Moore and Oklahoma State's Andrea Riley.
Members of Sports Illustrated's first team included LSU's Sylvia Fowles, Tennessee's Candace Parker, Oklahoma's Courtney Paris, Maryland's Kristi Toliver and Stanford's Candice Wiggins.
Cal completed its best regular season in school history, posting a 26-6 overall record and advancing to its first Pac-10 Tournament final. The Bears expect to earn their program-record third straight NCAA Tournament selection when the bids are announced on Monday, March 17, at 4 p.m. PT on ESPN.
