NORMAN, Okla. - Travis Coulter and Jim Murphy each drove in two runs to lead Washington State to a 5-3 win over No. 25 Oklahoma in nonconference baseball, Friday night at Dale Mitchell Park.

Jared Prince (2-0) picked up the win on the mound with five innings of work allowing two runs, one earned, seven hits and one walk. The junior also struck out two. Four Cougar relievers combined to post four innings of one-run ball as WSU (11-4) snapped an 11-game Oklahoma (14-3) winning streak. Matt Way pitched the ninth to earn his first save of the season and third of his career.

'Jared Prince gave us exactly what we needed and our bullpen performed like it has all year,' WSU Head Coach Donnie Marbut said. 'Oklahoma is the best team we haven't beaten this season.'

The Cougars scored in each of the first three innings to take a 5-1 lead. In the top of the first, Coulter led off with a double and moved to third on a one-out single by Paul Gran. Murphy then found the right-center field gap for a two-run double.

The Sooners tallied one in their half of the first when Mike Gosse singled, moved to second on a sacrifice and scored on Aaron Baker's double.

In the second, Scott Suttmeier opened with a single and Oklahoma's Chase Anderson hit Garry Kuykendall with a pitch. After Anderson struck out Shea Vucinich, Jeremy Erben was summoned from the Sooner bullpen. A wild pitch moved both runners up 90 feet, and Coulter singled up the middle to score two increasing the Cougars' lead to 4-1. A Vucinich RBI-double in the third made it 5-1.

Oklahoma scored an unearned run in the fourth and threatened in the seventh with one out and runners at first and second. Steve Kost came in for his 74th-career appearance, one shy of the WSU record, and promptly induced Gosse to bounce into and inning-ending double play.

In the eighth, the Sooners loaded the bases with one out off Kost. Andrew Davis came in and struck out pinch hitter Spencer Selby. Davis uncorked a wild pitch to plate a run before retiring Casey Johnson on a fly ball to preserve the lead. Way gave up a single to begin the ninth, but responded to set down the next three hitters and notch the save.

The Cougars and Sooners continue their four-game series with a doubleheader Saturday. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m. Central/noon Pacific.
