Washington Shines on Senior Night
March 14, 2008
Seattle, Wash. -
Washington posted its second win of the season tonight with a 194.450-188.525 victory over cross-town rival Seattle Pacific in the Huskies final home meet of the regular season in Bank of America Arena. UW topped the Falcons on all four events and scored a season-high 49.025 on the bars as three Huskies tied for first place on the event.
The Huskies' 194.450 was their second-highest home score this season, despite the absence of junior Ashley Houghting (Welland, Ont.), who was sidelined for the night with an injury. Washington's 49.025 on bars was the highest team score on the event in exactly three years - the Huskies posted a 49.025 against Boise State on March 14, 2005.
The Huskies captured first place on all four events and the all around tonight. Freshman Kristen Linton (Edmonds, Wash.) led the way with a first-place showing in the all around (38.950) and on bars (9.875), career-high marks on both events. She also finished in third place on vault, beam and floor. Linton shared first place on bars with seniors Raimey Iselin (Lake Tapps, Wash.) and Nikki Waiss (Mill Creek, Wash.). The 9.875 was a new career-high for Iselin and a season-high for Waiss, and the win marked the second career-victory for both.
On vault, freshman Haley Bogart (Woodside, Calif.) snagged first place with a 9.85. On beam, junior Kelly Gilbert (Phoenix, Ariz.) took top honors, with a 9.775. The win was the first of the season and second in her career.
Freshman Samantha Walior (Prior Lake, Minn.) closed out the meet with an exciting and well-executed floor routine, which earned a 9.9. The mark tied her career-best and gave Walior her first individual event title as a collegian.
The Huskies will return to the gym next week at Seattle Pacific. The Falcons will host Washington in the regular season finale at 7 p.m. on March 21. In two weeks, Washington will return to Bank of America Arena to host the 2008 Pac-10 Championships at 4 p.m. on Saturday, March 29.
