Troy Battles Stacked Field At U.S. Collegiate

The No. 6 USC men's golf team, which has finished no lower than fourth in its last six events, travels south to take on a tough field in the 2008 U.S. Collegiate Championship in Alpharetta, Ga., Monday through Wednesday (March 24-26) at the Golf Club of Georgia's Lakeside Course.

The Trojans, who boast the individual winner from the last two tournaments in which they have played, will face a field that includes host No. 10 Georgia Tech, No. 1 Alabama, No. 2 Georgia, No. 3 Charlotte, No. 4 UCLA, No. 5 Oklahoma State, No. 7 Stanford, No. 11 Florida State, No. 24 East Tennessee State, Coastal Carolina, Texas A&M, Georgia State, Texas and BYU (rankings from

Fourteen of the currently rated top 20 players by are participating in the tournament, including USC sophomore Jamie Lovemark, ranked No. 6.

Results can be followed live during the 54-hole event at Play begins at 10 a.m. (EDT) Monday and Tuesday and at 9 a.m. on Wednesday.

The Trojans have finished in the top 4 in their last six events (and finished eighth in the other) and have had two players finish in the top 10 in six of seven outings as well ... USC is coming off a fourth-place finish at the UNLV Southern Highlands Collegiate, where sophomore Rory Hie won the individual title after a three-way playoff ... Troy won the USC Collegiate Invitational less than a week earlier, posting a four-stroke win over second-place Tennessee. Its opening-round even 284, played during extremely windy conditions, was the low for the event and enabled Troy to hold off any challengers during the final two rounds. Freshman Tim Sluiter, who was entered in the tournament as an individual, earned medalist honors with a 5-over performance while frosh teammate Matthew Giles was second, one stroke back ... USC tied for second at the UH Hilo Invitational in the previous event and took third in the CordeValle Collegiate, the Isleworth-UCF Collegiate Invitational and the Ping/Golfweek Fall Preview ... Four different golfers have at least tied for team-high honors in USC's six tournaments this season (junior Tom Glissmeyer, sophomores Rory Hie and Jamie Lovemark and freshman Tim Sluiter).

Jamie Lovemark
Sophomore Jamie Lovemark, a 2007 All-American first teamer and NCAA individual champion who won virtually every individual award available to an NCAA men's golfer as a freshman, again leads the Trojans in stroke average at 71.22 ... He has finished in the top 7 four times this year (in the top 11 five times), including a second at the Isleworth-UCF Collegiate, a tie for sixth at the Ping/Golfweek Fall Preview, a tie for fifth at the UH Hilo Invitational and a tie for seventh at the UNLV Southern Highlands Collegiate ... Lovemark missed USC's season-opener while representing the United States at the Walker Cup ... He has four rounds in the 60s, including a season-best 65 at the UH Hilo Invitational ... For the second consecutive season, Lovemark is on the Watch List for the 2008 The Ben Hogan Award (he was a semifinalist last year) ... Also, Lovemark has recently been tabbed as one of 11 finalists for the 2007 Sullivan Award, which honors the nation's top amateur athlete. Fan voting counts for one third of the vote. Voting ends March 10.

Rory Hie
Sophomore Rory Hie, All-Pac-10 second team as a freshman, is averaging 71.86 strokes per round, second on the team ... Hie is coming off his second collegiate title, a win at the UNLV Southern Highlands Collegiate, where he tied for first and won a three-man playoff with a birdie on the first hole ... He has a team-best five top 10 finishes, including his win, a tie for fifth at the UH Hilo Invitational, a tie for sixth at the Ping/Golfweek Fall Preview and ties for ninth at the CordeValle Collegiate and the USC Collegiate... Hie has a team-best five rounds in the 60s, including a USC record 62 in the second round of the UH Hilo Invitational (on a 70 par course). The previous USC record was 63.

Tom Glissmeyer
Junior Tom Glissmeyer, a 2007 All-Pac-10 honorable mention selection, is averaging 73.48 strokes per round. He finished a season-best tied for seventh at the Isleworth-UCF Collegiate and has two other top 20 finishes. He carded a season-low of 69 at the UH Hilo Invitational.

Tim Sluiter
Freshman Tim Sluiter has been a major contributor in his first season with the Trojans and boasts a stroke average of 73.24. Sluiter recorded his first collegiate victory with a 4-over 218 at the USC Collegiate, coming from behind with a final-round 1-under 70. He tied for ninth at the CordeValle Collegiate (which included a final-round 69), tied for 11th at the Fall Preview and tied for 14th at the Inverness Intercollegiate ... He fired a season-low 67 at the UH Hilo Collegiate.

Matthew Giles
Freshman Matthew Giles, from Cronulla, New South Wales, Australia, is a spring semester enrollee who made his Trojan debut at the UH Hilo Collegiate. He tied for 20th and posted a 68 first round and a 67 third round ... He then took second at the USC Collegiate with a 6-over 219 and tied for 27th at the UNLV Southern Highlands Collegiate.

Gavin Reid
Freshman Gavin Reid has played in four tournaments this season, including three times as part of USC's scoring team. He finished a season-best 30th at the CordeValle Collegiate.

Ryan Linton
Junior Ryan Linton has seen action twice this season, tying for 58th at the CordeValle Collegiate and tying for 20th at the USC Collegiate.

Bo DeHuff
Redshirt freshman Bo DeHuff finished tied for 50th at both the Inverness Intercollegiate and CordeValle Collegiate and was 71st at the USC Collegiate.

Daniel Park
Freshman Daniel Park played at the Fall Preview, tying for 55th, and tied for 64th at the USC Collegiate.
