Men's Golf Finishes Tied for Eighth at Duck Invitational

March 25, 2008

CRESWELL, Ore. - Three Cougars placed in the top 25 and the Washington State University men's golf team finished tied for eighth at the Duck Invitational, hosted by the University of Oregon, Tuesday.

The Cougars combined for a three-round total of 899 at the par-72, 7,093-yard Emerald Valley Golf Club. The men climbed up the leaderboard in the second round of competition after firing a tournament-tying low score of 285.

Freshman Nick Ellis led the men with a total score of 220 (+4) and finished tied for ninth. Ellis earned his third top 10 finish of the season and needs only one more to crack the all-time single season list.

Senior Jordan Mason earned his 10th career top 25 finish as he carded a 5-over par 221, good for a tie at 11th. Mason's performance now places him 10th on the career top 25 finishes list.

'Ellis played really solid and finished in the top 10 in a pretty strong field,' Head Coach Walt Williams said. 'Mason had his best finish of the spring and finished one stoke out of the top 10. This week we played on a very difficult golf course that is long with undulating greens. When the men are playing well they are as good as any team in the country and that is what they showed in the second round.'

Sophomore Kevin Tucker also fared well throughout the tournament, finishing with a 225 (+9) and tying for 25th. Tucker notched his fifth top 25 finish of the season and seventh of his career.

Sophomore Nick Grigsby shot a 237 and freshman Xavier Dailly ended with 244 to round out the Cougar contingent.

The Cougars continue their spring season at the Inland Cup, March 28th, when the men take on the University of Idaho in a dual meet at Moscow, Idaho.
