Troy Heads Toward NCAA Championships

The USC men's swimming and diving team, led by All-American junior Vanni Mangoni and senior co-captains Richard Gosper and Bryce Elser, have traveled north to compete in the 2008 NCAA Men's Swimming and Diving Championships Thursday through Saturday (March 27-29) at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way, Wash.

NCAA CHAMPIONSHIP NOTES
USC, under second-year head coach Dave Salo, has won a combined 112 NCAA titles, including 94 individually and 18 on relays ... USC has won at least one NCAA title in six of the past seven seasons ... Junior Vanni Mangoni is USC's best hope to add to the NCAA title list. The 2008 Pac-10 Champion in the 400y IM, he was fifth at the NCAAs last season ... Senior co-captain Bryce Elser is making his third trip to the NCAAs while senior co-captain Richard Gosper is making his second trip. Elser is USC's third fastest ever in the 100y fly while Gosper is USC's record holder in the 50y free ... Junior Ankur Poseria is making his NCAA debut and gunning to score in the 100y fly. He set USC's record in the 100m fly (lcm) earlier this season ... Freshman Steven Starks will compete in all three diving events and will try to be the seventh different diver to earn All-American honors under USC diving coach Hongping Li.
The USC men have broken three school records this season, all coming at the 2007 Husky Invite in December ... Senior Richard Gosper broke the USC record in the 50y free in 19.54, bettering USC's school record of 19.62 set by Sean Sussex last season. He later tied the school record in the 50m free in 23.21, matching Chris Jennings' 1995 effort ... Junior Ankur Poseria inked his name in the school record books with a 53.68 in the 100m fly, erasing Dave Cadermartori's 1987 mark of 54.15, which had been the oldest individual USC men's record.
