No. 5 Stanford Picks Up Solid 5-2 Win At No. 18 Pepperdine

STANFORD, Calif.- No. 5 Stanford continued its busy four-match, six-day stretch with a solid road victory against No. 18 Pepperdine, defeating the Waves 5-2 on Wednesday afternoon.

With the victory, the Cardinal improved to 12-3 while the Waves fell to 13-4 and saw their eight-match winning streak halted.

In a hard-fought contest that lasted four hours and 20 minutes, Stanford picked up its fourth road win of the year.

Pepperdine remained perfect in capturing the doubles point in dual matches this year after winning two of three to take a 1-0 lead. The Waves won at the Nos. 2 and 3 spots, respectively. Stanford's only doubles victory came at No. 1, where freshman Hilary Barte and sophomore Lindsay Burdette routed Sylvia Kosakowski and Bianca Dulgheru 8-1.

Barte won her ninth straight match, topping Kosakowski 6-4, 6-4 at the top spot in the lineup to even the match at 1-1.

The Cardinal followed with victories at the Nos. 6, 3 and 4 spots to grab a 4-1 lead. Burdette provided the clincher at No. 4 with a 6-2, 7-6 (7-4) triumph over Dulgheru.

Pepperdine's Jill Braverman locked up a three-set win at No. 5 to pull the Waves within a final score of 5-2.

Stanford wraps up its road swing against No. 13 Arizona State on Friday and Arizona on Saturday.
