Cal Varsity 8 Triumphant on First Day of Pac-10 Challenge

REDWOOD SHORES, Calif. - California won both its varsity eight races at the Pac-10 Challenge hosted by Stanford on Saturday, the first day of the regatta. Cal's varsity eight boat defeated Trinity in the morning, 6:05.59-6:19.21, and UC San Diego in the afternoon, 6:35.29-7:00.03.

Also on Saturday morning, Cal beat Trinity in the second varsity eight race, 6:14.93-6:31.40, and won its freshman eight match-up with Orange Coast, 6:20.99-6:50.64.

In the Bears' last race of the day, their freshman eight outpaced UCLA's second varsity eight, 6:21.40-6:53.95.

Cal's second varsity eight is scheduled to compete in the first event on Sunday, the last day of the Pac-10 Challenge, when they take on Cornell at 9 a.m. The complete schedule of events can be found on the Stanford Web site at
