Casey Haerther Named UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week
March 31, 2008
Sophomore first baseman Casey Haerther (Chatsworth, CA/Chaminade HS) of the UCLA baseball team was selected as the UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week (March 24-30).
Haerther hit at a .643 clip (9-for-14) in UCLA's series win at Arizona over the weekend, and his stellar play was highlighted at the plate by a historic 7-for-7 effort in the Bruins' 20-8 win Saturday. Haerther went 7-for-7 in seven plate appearances Saturday evening, marking the greatest single-game hitting effort on record by a Bruin baseball player. In that game, Haerther registered career-highs with four doubles, four runs and four RBI. The following afternoon, Haerther led the Bruins, going 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. The Chatsworth, Calif., resident finished the weekend with 16 total bases, five runs, four doubles, six RBI and a 1.143 slugging percentage, and he raised his batting average from .203 to .288 (.85 point improvement). Haerther became the first college baseball player to go 7-for-7 since Greg Miller of James Madison accomplished the feat on May 18, 2000 in game against Richmond.
This is Haerther's first UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week honor of the season and of his career.
