No. 19 Gym Devils to Head to South Central Regional
March 31, 2008
The No. 19 Arizona State women's gymnastics team has been selected for their 27th consecutive NCAA regional. The Sun Devils will be heading to Norman, Okla., as a fourth seed to compete in the South Central Regional on April 12 at 6:00 p.m. CT.
Along with host No. 2 seed Oklahoma, the Sun Devils will be competing against Alabama (No. 1 seed), Boise State (No. 3 seed), Illinois (No. 5 seed) and Southeast Missouri State (No. 6). The Sun Devils will start the meet on beam, where they are currently ranked 14th nationally. Megan Koshman of Illinois State will be in the Sun Devils rotation as an all-around specialist.
Six teams, five all-around competitors (who are not on a qualifying team) and one individual event specialist per event [who has a minimum Regional Qualifying Score (RQS) of 9.4] were named to each of the six regions. The top two teams and the top two all-around competitors (who are not on an advancing team) from each regional will receive an automatic berth to the national championships in Athens, Georgia, April 24-26, hosted by the University of Georgia.
In addition, the event winners at the regional championships will advance to the national championships (in that event only) if they are not part of a qualifying team or the all-around qualifiers.
