Stanford Begins Second Phase of Spring Workouts on Thursday

Stanford, Calif. - The Stanford Cardinal under second-year head coach Jim Harbaugh will commence its second phase of spring workouts on Thursday, April 3 at Elliott Field with the first of six workouts, culminating with the annual Spring Game at Stanford Stadium on Saturday, April 12 beginning at 6:00 pm.

Thursday's helmet-only workout will begin at 4:00 pm, followed by full pad practice sessions on Saturday, April 5 (2:00 pm), Sunday, April 6 (3:00 pm--Stanford Stadium), Wednesday, April 9 and Thursday, April 10. All workouts will take place on Elliott Field unless otherwise noted. The annual Spring Game is scheduled for Saturday, April 12 at Stanford Stadium beginning at 6:00 pm.

The Cardinal previously held nine of their allotted 15 spring practices sessions from February 15 to March 11.

Stanford returns 20 starters (nine offense/11 defense) and 46 letterwinners (27 offense/18 defense/one specialist) from last year's team that finished with a 4-8 overall record and a 3-6 mark in the Pac-10 Conference. Included among last year's win total were signature victories over second-ranked USC and California. Two of Cardinal's six losses were by a touchdown or less.

Stanford opens the 2008 regular season on August 28 against Oregon State at Stanford Stadium. Other home dates are scheduled against San Jose State (Sept. 20), Arizona (Oct. 11--Homecoming), Washington State (Nov. 1) and USC (Nov. 15) with road contests slated for Arizona State (Sept. 6), Texas Christian (Sept. 13), Washington (Sept. 27), Notre Dame (Oct. 4), UCLA (Oct. 18), Oregon (Nov. 8) and California (Nov. 22).
