April 1, 2008
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Senior Anjelica Selden was named Pac-10 Pitcher of the Week for the third time this season after posting a perfect 3-0 record, a 0.93 earned run average and 28 strikeouts in 15 innings last week.
It is the 10th time that Selden has earned Pac-10 Pitcher of the Week honors for her career, the second-most of any Bruin pitcher behind only Keira Goerl's 11.
UCLA receives its sixth Pac-10 Player or Pitcher of the Week award this season. Freshman GiOnna DiSalvatore has earned the Player honor twice (Feb. 12 & 26), while freshman Donna Kerr was named Pitcher of the Week on March 4.
Selden opened last week with a 12-strikeout performance at UC Santa Barbara on Tuesday, her eighth double-digit strikeout effort of the season.
In the Bruins' Pac-10 opener on Friday against Oregon State, the senior had another commanding outing, fanning eight in six innings and limiting the Beavers to one hit.
Selden notched four more shutout innings on Sunday in the Bruins' run-rule victory over Oregon, striking out another eight batters.
Selden leads the team with a 15-2 record and 173 strikeouts to go along with a 0.76 earned run average, holding opponents to a .139 batting average. She is also ninth in the country in earned run average, third in fewest walks per seven innings, eighth in strikeouts per seven innings and 10th in fewest hits allowed.
