SEATTLE - The Washington baseball team (17-8 overall, 2-1 in Pac-10 play) opens an eight-game homestand this evening as Portland (14-14) returns to Husky Ballpark for a 5:00 p.m. game.
The Huskies, who won one of three in their Pac-10-opening series last weekend at Oregon State, take on the Pilots tonight and then play host to 18th-ranked Arizona (14-9, 2-4 Pac-10) this weekend. Friday's game, which will start at 6:30 p.m., will be played at Safeco Field. Last year, the Huskies beat Oregon State in their first game at Safeco.
After Friday's game, the series returns to Husky Ballpark for a 2:00 p.m. game Saturday and a 1:00 p.m. start Sunday.
Husky lefty Ben Guidos (2-0, 4.85) will start tonight against the Pilots. Earlier this season, on Sat., March 22, the Huskies beat Portland, 6-5, after rallying for three runs in the bottom of the ninth. Freshman first baseman Troy Scott's two-run double provided the winning runs.
Last night, the Pilots lost 5-4 in 13 innings at Oregon State.
The Pilots and Huskies will face off again a week from today in another 5:00 p.m. game and the homestand wraps up with a three-game series vs. Brigham Young next Thursday through Saturday.
