Cal Qualifies for Finals at Texas Relays

AUSTIN, Texas - California enjoyed some success at the Texas Relays today in Austin, Texas. Three Golden Bears qualified for the final of the men's and women's 400-meter hurdles, with junior Jake Hanson running for the men, and junior Evelyn Smith and freshman Natalya Beneby running for the women.

Smith clocked in at 60.98 and Beneby at 61.05 in the prelims. Although Smith finished with a better time than her teammate, Beneby won her race and Smith took third in her heat. The final for the 400-meter hurdles will take place on Saturday.

Hanson crossed the finish line at 51.86, taking fourth in the prelims. Hanson's time was also an NCAA regional-qualifying mark. Like the women, the men's 400-meter-hurdle final will take place on Saturday.

The Bears continue the Texas Relays tomorrow and Saturday.
