Men's Golf Travels to California for Stevinson Ranch Invitational

What's Happening This Week: The Washington State University men's golf team travels to Stevinson, Calif., to compete in the Stevinson Ranch Invitational April 7-8, hosted by the University of Colorado...the two-day, 54-hole tournament will be played at the par-72, 7,206-yard Stevinson Ranch Golf Club...the first two rounds of play begin Monday at 7:15 a.m...the final 18 holes will be played Tuesday with a shotgun start at 8 results will be posted at

The Field: The 16-team field pairs Washington State with No. 46 St. Mary's, Akron, UC-Riverside, Colorado, CSU-Bakersfield, CSU-Stanislaus, Drake, Gonzaga, Loyola-Marymount, Missouri-Kansas City, New Mexico State, Northern Illinois, Oklahoma City, Pacific and San Francisco (Rankings according to Golfweek).

Traveling for the Cougars: Five Cougars will be traveling to California to take a swing at victory...the Cougar contingent includes senior Jordan Mason, sophomores Nick Grigsby, Austin Hurt and Kevin Tucker and freshman Nick Ellis...junior Brandon Black will also compete as an individual.

First for Ellis: Ellis, a native of Wenatchee, Wash., captured his first career tournament victory March 28, at the Inland Cup at Clarkston, Wash...Ellis has finished in the top 10 in four of his last six tournaments.

Men Break School Record Against Idaho: The WSU men's golf team broke the school record for the lowest single-round score by firing a 12-under par 268 in the first round of the Inland Cup.

Last Time Out: The Cougar men defeated the University of Idaho 559 to 572 at the Inland Cup March 28, breaking the school record for the lowest single-round score (268)...the two-round duel match was played at the par-72, 6,712-yard Lewiston Golf and Country Club and on the par-70, 6,121-yard Quail Ridge Golf Course...Ellis earned his first career tournament victory and carded a 6-under 136...Ellis also moved into a tie for sixth on top 10 finishes in a season list (four)...several other Cougars also climbed into the record books as Black, Grigsby and Tucker fired first-round scores of 66, which ties them for the ninth-lowest score in school history...Tucker earned the best finish of his career as he placed second and finished with 138 (-4)...Black, playing as an individual, placed third with a score of 3-under 139...Black earned the first top 10 finish of his career...Grigsby inked the only other sub-par score for the Cougars as he shot a 1-under 141, good for fifth and best finish of his career...Mason finished in eighth and moved into sole possession of 10th overall on the top 25 finishes list with 11...Hurt shot a 147, while freshman Xavier Dailly carded a 151...freshman Dustin Poe, playing as an individual, ended with 154 to round out the Cougar contingent.
