ASU Women's Golf in Second Place after Day One of PING/ASU Invitational

Tempe, Ariz. - The third ranked Arizona State women's golf team is in second place after the first round of the 2008 PING/ASU Invitational. The Sun Devils shot an even-par 288 at the par-72, 6,230-yard ASU Karsten Golf Course. The Sun Devils are currently seven strokes behind tournament leader No. 4 Southern California and have a one-stroke lead over second-place 11th ranked Georgia.

Sophomore All-American Anna Nordqvist shot a 2-under 70 to lead the Sun Devils and to tie for third place. Junior All-American Jennifer Osborn also had a solid start for ASU, finishing the day at even-par to tie for 14th.

Sophomore Juliana Murcia and junior All-American Azahara Munoz tied for 22nd at 1-over 73. Senior Camila Sola finished the day tied for 62nd at 6-over 78.

In addition to the lineup, the Sun Devils had two athletes playing as individuals. Sophomore Liisa Kelo matched her career-low of 73 to also tie for 22nd with Murcia and Munoz. Graduate Brooke Todare finished the day tied at 78th after shooting 9-over 81.

Other highlights of the day included Vanderbilt sophomore Brooke Goodwin shooting a hole-in-one on the sixth hole.
