April 4, 2008

Seattle - No. 21 California dropped a 2-1 decision to the No. 24-ranked Washington Huskies on Friday in Pac-10 softball action at Husky Stadium.

Cal travels to No. 1 UCLA for a pair of games beginning Saturday at 3:00 p.m. and again on Sunday at noon. The Golden Bears are 32-13, 1-3 Pac-10.

The Bears grabbed an early 1-0 lead when Katie Vickers delivered an infield single (to the short stop) with the bases loaded and two outs in the first inning, allowing for Gina Leomiti (who walked) to score from third base. UW pitcher Aleah Macon then struck out Vernae Sevilla to end the inning, keeping the score 1-0.

Marissa Drewrey got out of a slight jam in the second inning with two outs and runners on the corners after inducing Alicia Blake to line out to Sanoe Kekahuna at first base.

The Huskies eventually tied the score at 1-1 in the bottom of the third inning courtesy of a Jace Williams double to right-center field allowing for Marnie Koziol (who reached on a fielding error) to score. UW added its second run of the inning after another fielding error allowed Williams to score.

Despite not giving up an earned run, Drewrey suffered the loss to fall to 20-8 on the season. Drewrey had four strikeouts to bring her season total to 203. Cal committed three errors in the contest, including two in the bottom of the third which led to both UW runs.
