Pair of Bruin Defenders Named to Lott Trophy Watch List

UCLA football standouts Reggie Carter and Alterraun Verner are among 42 of the nation's top collegiate defensive players who have been named to the 2008 Lott Trophy Watch List. Thirty-five different schools are represented on the Watch List.

Carter, a junior linebacker, recorded 62 tackles last season, including 12.0 tackles for loss which ranked third on the team. Verner, a junior cornerback, ranked fourth on the team in 2007 with 75 tackles and ranked 11th nationally in passes broken up.

The Lott Trophy is the first college football award to equally recognize athletic performance and the personal character attributes of the player. Sponsored by the Pacific Club IMPACT Foundation, the award is given to a player who exhibits the same characteristics Ronnie Lott embodied during his career: Integrity, Maturity, Performance, Academics, Community and Tenacity.
