UCLA Takes First Round Lead in Georgia

The third-ranked UCLA men's golf team moved to the top of the leaderboard after the first day of competition in the Administaff Augusta State Invitational at the Champions Resort in Evans, Ga.

The Bruins posted a team score of 284 (-4) and held a two-stroke lead over second-place North Carolina at 286 (-2). Lamar University was third at one-under par 287, followed by Georgia Tech at 288 (E) and North Carolina State at 289 (+1).

UCLA junior Lucas Lee emerged as the first round leader, firing an opening round 69 (-3). Lee was one-under through 13 holes before consecutive birdies at the 14th and 15th holes brought him to minus three. He birdied the 17th to move to four-under, but fell back after a bogey at the last hole. Lee was tied for first with two other players.

Senior Kevin Chappell was tied for fourth place after posting a 70 (-2) in round one. Two-under through 15, Chappell birdied the 16th to drop to three-under, but bogeyed the 18th.

Junior Erik Flores posted a one-under par 71 on Friday and was tied for ninth place. Flores played the inward nine in two-under par to rally from being one-over par at the turn.

Freshman Philip Francis was tied for 35th place after carding a score of 74 (+2), and senior Craig Leslie was tied for 80th after signing for a 79 (+7).
