Box Score

PALO ALTO, Calif. - The Sun Devil offense was stagnant while the Cardinal offense was relentless as Stanford scored a 12-2 win over ASU to even the Pac-10 series at one game apiece. The loss drops Arizona State to 28-2, 4-1 in conference play.

Stanford starter Erik Davis flummoxed the Sun Devil hitters, striking out five while allowing only two runs on four hits in a complete game effort. Meanwhile, ASU starter Josh Satow allowed five runs on seven hits in only 4.1 innings. He walked two and hit one while striking out three. He took the loss, dropping him to 3-1 on the year.

Stanford touched Satow for three runs in the first to grab the early lead. Sean Ratliff's RBI double gave the Cardinal a 2-0 lead, then a Brendan Domaracki RBI single made it 3-0. ASU got on the board in the third when Raoul Torrez came home on a Petey Paramore ground out. Stanford stretched the lead in the fourth on a Jason Castro RBI single that made it 4-1.

Stanford added more in the fifth, scoring twice off of Satow and Tommy Rafferty. After Satow hit Sean Ratliff to start the inning, Tommy Rafferty came on in relief. He retired the first hitter he faced, but a walk and an RBI single by Zach Jones made it 5-1. A sac fly to center by Jake Schlander made it 6-1 at the end of five.

The Cardinal continued to pour it on in the sixth, thanks to a two-run homer by Sean Ratliff off Seth Blair that made it 8-1. Petey Paramore's solo homer in the eighth made it 8-2 and was the first Sun Devil hit since the third inning. Stanford scored four runs off Blair in the eighth, including back-to-back homers.

Brett Wallace, Petey Paramore, Ryan Sontag and Raoul Torrez were the only Sun Devils to record a hit off Erik Davis. Paramore drove in the only two runs the Sun Devils scored. On the flipside, Stanford pounded out 17 hits off three Sun Devil pitchers, including six extra base hits and three homers.

The Devils and Cardinal will play the rubber of the series tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m. from Sunken Diamond.
