No. 41 Washington State Rolls Past Arizona, 5-2

Pullman, Wash. - Ekaterina Burduli picked up career win number 87 and WSU grabbed its first Pac-10 win of the season, as the Cougars downed the Arizona Wildcats, 5-2, at the Simmelink Tennis Courts at the Hillingbery Fieldhouse.
For the first time since the 2000-2001 season, the Cougars have defeated the Arizona Wildcats. The last time WSU won, they posted a 4-3 victory in Pullman. The Cougars improved to 12-9 and 1-6 in the Pac-10 while Arizona dropped to 7-14 and 0-8 in Pac-10 play.
WSU started strong in doubles play as they won two of three doubles matches. The tandem of Aleksandra Stefanova and Aleksandra Cekic started things off as they posted an 8-4 win over Arizona's Natalia Toporowska and Ariane Masschelein at the No. 3 spot. Senior Ekaterina Burduli and her partner Ekaterina Kamendova clinched the doubles point with an impressive 8-4 victory over Arizona's Danielle Steinberg and Claire Rietsch at No. 1.
The Cougars carried the momentum into singles play, grabbing four of the six singles matches to seal the win. At No. 3, freshman Ekaterina Kamendova started things off for WSU, by posting a 6-1 win in the first set of her match, before her opponent Natalia Toporowska retired in the second set due to an injury. Aleksandra Cekic improved her dual match record to 9-8, as she downed Arizona's Jane Huh in straight sets, 6-2, 6-0 at No. 4.
Tel Aviv, Israel native, Ekaterina Burduli posted her 87 career win which ties her for first all-time on the WSU career wins list with Erica Perkins. Burduli jumped out to a quick 6-2 win in the first set of her match, before trading points early in the second set. Burduli then rattled off four straight points to win the match, 6-2, 6-2 over Danielle Steinberg at the No. 1 spot.
Senior Aleksandra Stefanova clinched the match for the Cougars with a straight set win over Claire Rietsch, 6-2, 6-3 at the No. 2 spot. Stefanova grabbed her 15 win of the season which is tied for third on the team.
The Cougars return to action Sunday, April 6th, at 10 a.m. against the Santa Clara Broncos, at the Simmelink Tennis Courts at the Hollingbery Fieldhouse.
